Description

8a, one of the 6 (4 operational) Na class steam locos owned by the Puffing Billy Railway at Belgrave station in Belgrave, Victoria Australia.

When in service with the Victorian Railways the class recieved the nickname 'Coffee Pots' and were known as that right up until they were withdrawn in the 1950's and early 60's.

About the turn of the century (~1890's - 1900's) the Victorian Railways looked into making difficuly terrain railways in a cost effective way and such the four 2 foot 6 gauge lines were opened. They designed the small Na class to run on these lines and could be seen on any of the four railways. They were the only narrow gauge loco's owned by the VR until the arrival of the two 'G class' garratt loco's in the mid 1920's.

Fun fact: this is the first steam loco I ever got to have a cabride in and it was fun! :)
